Prepare your desktop for your next Zoom meeting or recorded video by hiding the Windows clock.

Hiding the Windows Taskbar Clock Hero

The Windows 10 taskbar clock is excellent for many things. Keeping track of how long you have until your next meeting, or better, the end of the day among them. While those are times you probably want to keep the clock displayed, there are other times where it would be best if it was out of view.

One such time I often encounter is when recording software training videos. Even when the material covered is still relevant, I find viewers question technical videos more…

Learn how to use the Autodesk Uninstall Tool to remove Autodesk software and residual files from your computer post-uninstallation.

Each spring, Autodesk releases new versions of its software. With March’s release of AutoCAD 2022, this year was no exception. While there’s understandable excitement around each release, a more pervasive question remains.

What do you do with the old software versions you no longer plan to use?

The simple answer to this question is to uninstall the old version(s) you will no longer use. If only things were that simple.

Chances are your Autodesk subscription includes access to more than…

Autodesk announces Autodesk University 2021 will be an all-digital conference and opens its annual call for proposals cycle.

Fresh off the heels of the first 2022 product releases, today Autodesk opens its annual Autodesk University call for proposals. Typically, Autodesk hosts Autodesk University as a three-day in-person conference. While many cities have hosted Autodesk University over the years, Las Vegas was the host city from 2007 until 2019. Although at the end of Autodesk University 2019, Autodesk announced Las Vegas as the host city for the 2020 conference, the global coronavirus pandemic changed those plans about this time last year.

Looking Back at Autodesk University 2020

Autodesk University 2020 was unlike any other Autodesk University event before it. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, what usually is an in-person conference for 10,000 professionals became a worldwide online event for over 100,000 professionals!

Last week, Autodesk announced the Best of Autodesk University 2020 Speaker Awards. To my delight, my “ AutoCAD Tips, Tricks, and Dazzling Drafting Techniques “ session was named the Top On-Demand Video Session in the Americas.

Although practically everything about the conference was different this year, the Autodesk University team made a point of keeping the event’s cornerstone of learning intact. …

This week, Autodesk kicked off its 2022 product launch with the release of AutoCAD 2022. As with all new releases, packed inside is a collection of new features that will impact the way you work. While every new release affects the way we work, the critical question is whether it does so in a positive light?

For me, comparing AutoCAD 2022 to the way I work, I feel this year’s release adds several meaningful improvements to the software. …

Leading your planning development with topics, not outcomes, is a recipe for mediocrity.

We often let topics drive training, not desired outcomes. Fundamentally, training is about changing behavior. Unless you know what that behavioral target is, your chances of hitting your target are a gamble of fate.

Start with a Question

Often, the number of things we can present on a topic far exceeds the number of things we should show on a topic. When planning a training class, determining what you won’t talk about is as important as deciding what you will talk about. In my experience, the best way to find this balance is to center every class you develop around a question.

The question…

Receiving an Autodesk University class acceptance email is usually among the most exciting events for me around this time of year. Although wonderfully exciting, it pales in comparison to the event that’s taken me away from the office for the last couple weeks. With an incredible joy, my wife and I have welcomed a second son into our family. Mommy and baby are doing great, and it’s been a wonderful gift to spend this time away from the office with them.

Although my focus has been on just about anything but work, it was with a great excitement I received…

The Select Similar command lets you select objects with shared properties. With it, AutoCAD will search for and select all other objects that are like the object(s) you have selected. For example, you could quickly select all the lines, but not the arcs or polylines, on a layer, or all the dimensions, but not text in a drawing. Whatever the combination, the result of the command is always based on what you have selected.

How to use the Select Similar Command

The basic use of the Select Similar command is pretty straightforward. Select objects with properties like the other objects you want to select in your drawing.

To all the dad’s out there — Happy Father’s Day! I hope you’re able to spend the day with your own father and/or your own children.

With my son turning three at the end of the month, I couldn’t be happier to celebrate my third Father’s Day with him. He’s such an incredible dude, and I couldn’t be prouder of him. The biggest word he knows how to say and apply is doppelganger, and most recently we’ve been working on learning our shapes.

After mastering basic shapes like triangle and square months and months ago, we’ve started work on more…
